- While we recommend reading the full comparison below, please note that:
1) Option 1 includes traditional breaks and parent-teacher conferences following the distribution of report cards.
2) Option 2 includes a four-day weekend in October for students and a full week off for students and teachers at Thanksgiving.
3) Option 3 includes a three-day weekend in October, a full week off for students and teachers at Thanksgiving, and a student holiday on February 16.

Dear Families, Faculty, and Staff,
We hope you are well. We are writing today with an opportunity to provide additional input on the 2025-26 school calendar.
As you know, the school calendar impacts all members of our school and broader community, and we are committed to partnering with you to present a calendar that is responsive to our community. Accordingly, the Hanover County School Board is seeking input on three calendar options for the upcoming school year.
The full calendars can be found here (Option 1 | Option 2 | Option 3). All three options include August 18 as the first day of school and May 29 as the last day of school.
Please note the following as it relates to the three options:
Upon reviewing the calendars and the above comparison, please complete this brief, anonymous survey indicating your calendar preference. The deadline for input is Wednesday, January 8.

Dear Families, Faculty, and Staff,
We hope you are having a great week. We are writing today with important information and an opportunity for input regarding the 2025-26 school calendar.
At last night’s School Board meeting, the HCPS Calendar Committee presented the proposed calendar for the 2025-26 school year, which can be found on BoardDocs. The proposed calendar includes the following:
- A staggered start to the school year similar to the past five school years. Students in Kindergarten, First Grade, Sixth Grade, and Ninth Grade would start on Monday, August 18, and all students would go to school on Tuesday, August 19.
- Two full weeks of Winter Break. The last day of school before Winter Break would be Friday, December 19, and students would return on Monday, January 5.
- Spring Break from March 30 through April 3.

Families, faculty, staff, and community members are encouraged to provide input and suggestions regarding the proposed 2025-26 calendar.
The public input period opens today and runs through Friday, October 25. Please complete this feedback form to provide your input.
This input will be presented to the School Board in advance of its vote on the calendar, which is scheduled for its regularly scheduled business meeting on Tuesday, November 12.
The proposed calendar was developed by a committee of parents, teachers, support employees, and administrators and in coordination with the other major school divisions in the metro-Richmond area.
